Heart plug or blood thinners? new trial seeks safer stroke prevention for frail seniors

NCT ID NCT07441382

Summary

This study aims to find the safer, more effective treatment for frail elderly patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm problem that raises stroke risk. It will compare two approaches: a heart procedure (ablation) combined with a small plug to seal off a part of the heart, versus the same procedure combined with long-term blood-thinning medication. The goal is to see which strategy better prevents strokes while causing fewer serious bleeding events in this vulnerable group.
