Scientists launch biobank to uncover genetic secrets of AF and stroke
NCT ID NCT03611816
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is creating a biological bank of blood samples from 1,000 people with atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke. Researchers will collect DNA and plasma to study the genetic roots of these conditions. The goal is to better understand why AF leads to stroke and find new drug targets. Participants provide blood samples and clinical data, but no experimental treatment is given.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this biobank could help researchers discover genetic causes of atrial fibrillation and stroke, potentially pointing toward new treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational biobank study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly benefit participants and may not lead to any new therapies for years.
