Can cycling unlock brain secrets in Parkinson's?

NCT ID NCT07442747

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at people with advanced Parkinson's disease who already have a brain device (deep brain stimulation). Researchers want to understand how aerobic exercise—specifically cycling—changes movement, thinking, and brain activity. Thirty-six participants will do an eight-week cycling program, and the team will measure symptoms and brain signals to uncover the mechanisms behind exercise benefits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

aerobic exercise (cycling)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could reveal how exercise improves Parkinson's symptoms, pointing toward better exercise-based therapies.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (36 people) focused on understanding mechanisms, not testing a treatment. Results may not apply to all Parkinson's patients.
