Heart check: prostate cancer treatment may impact cardiac health

NCT ID NCT03275181

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), a common hormone treatment for prostate cancer, affects how well the heart pumps. Researchers compared heart function in 18 men: some who had ADT, some who didn't, and some without cancer. They used ultrasound and exercise tests to measure heart performance. The goal is to find ways to protect heart health in prostate cancer survivors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better heart health monitoring and lifestyle advice for prostate cancer patients on hormone therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 18 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It only measures heart function, not long-term outcomes.
