Could a smartphone app ease the agony of waiting for chronic pain treatment?

NCT ID NCT07659873

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a self-guided digital psychology app, called Manage My Pain, along with weekly email reminders, for people with fibromyalgia or chronic pelvic pain who are on a waitlist for specialized pain care. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and acceptable, and whether it helps improve pain self-management and reduce distress. Sixty adults referred to a pain clinic will use the app and provide feedback through surveys and interviews.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Manage My Pain app (digital psychology intervention) and reminder emails
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could provide a scalable, low-cost way to support chronic pain patients during long wait times, reducing distress and improving self-management.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study (60 participants), so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is self-guided, and engagement or benefit may vary widely.
