New hope for veterans: brain zaps may lift depression after concussion

NCT ID NCT05426967

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests two types of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to see if they can safely reduce depression in U.S. military service members and veterans who have had a concussion or mild traumatic brain injury. About 198 participants will receive one of the two rTMS protocols or a placebo-like control. The goal is to find a better way to treat depressive symptoms that often follow a concussion.
