Stomach bleeding linked to kidney damage: new study to track who is at risk
NCT ID NCT07636083
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will follow 200 adults hospitalized with upper gastrointestinal bleeding to see how many develop acute kidney injury. Researchers will also look for factors that make kidney damage more likely, such as the cause of bleeding. No new treatments are being tested—patients receive standard care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors identify which patients with upper GI bleeding are at highest risk for kidney injury, allowing earlier monitoring and prevention.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't test any new therapy. Results may not apply to hospitals outside of Egypt or to patients with different health profiles.
