New device could make ACL surgery less painful

NCT ID NCT06819696

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a new tool called a dual-flow arthroscopy sheath can replace the standard thigh tourniquet during ACL knee surgery. The goal is to see if it reduces pain and speeds up recovery. About 128 adults having their first ACL reconstruction will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
dual-flow arthroscopy sheath
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to less pain and faster recovery after ACL surgery by avoiding the use of a tourniquet.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with 128 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new sheath might not reduce pain or complications as hoped.
