Can the ankle fully recover after donating a tendon for ACL repair?

NCT ID NCT07762989

First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study follows 20 adults aged 18 to 55 who had ACL reconstruction using a peroneus longus tendon graft from their ankle. Researchers will measure ankle strength, balance, walking patterns, and joint position sense at 6-8 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, comparing the donor ankle to the other ankle. The goal is to understand how well and how quickly the ankle recovers, which could inform future surgical and rehabilitation decisions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using a peroneus longus tendon autograft
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help surgeons understand how well the ankle recovers after using this graft, potentially improving surgical choices and rehabilitation protocols.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study (20 participants) without a control group, so results may not apply broadly. It only measures recovery, not the effectiveness of the surgery itself.
