Knee surgery showdown: which tendon graft works best?
NCT ID NCT07671729
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of tendon grafts used to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee. Sixty people scheduled for ACL surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either a quadriceps tendon graft or a peroneus longus tendon graft. Researchers will measure knee function, return to sports, ankle strength, and walking patterns at 6 and 12 months after surgery to see which graft leads to better outcomes and fewer side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Quadriceps tendon autograft or peroneus longus tendon autograft
- What this could lead to
- If one graft proves better, it could improve knee function and return-to-sport rates after ACL surgery while reducing donor-site problems.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Both grafts have known risks like pain or weakness at the harvest site.
