Could a tiny injection in blood vessels ease stubborn achilles pain?
NCT ID NCT07477860
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early study tests a procedure called arterial embolization for people with long-lasting Achilles tendon pain that hasn't improved with other treatments. Doctors use a thin tube to inject a temporary blocking agent into small blood vessels around the tendon. Ten adults aged 25 to 80 will be followed for a year to see if pain decreases and if the procedure is safe.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LipioJoint (Lipiodol emulsion injected into blood vessels)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a minimally invasive option for people with chronic Achilles tendon pain who want to avoid surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small study with only 10 participants. The procedure may not reduce pain, and there are risks like allergic reaction or tissue damage from the embolic agent.
