Can adding chemo to radiation keep cervical cancer from coming back?
NCT ID NCT05277688
First seen Aug 18, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 18, 2026
Summary
This trial is testing whether adding chemotherapy to radiation therapy after surgery helps prevent cervical cancer from returning in patients with certain intermediate-risk factors. Participants are adults aged 18 to 80 with early-stage cervical cancer who have had a hysterectomy. Half will receive radiation alone, and half will receive radiation plus weekly cisplatin. The study will compare recurrence-free survival over five years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cisplatin (chemotherapy) given alongside radiation therapy
- What this could lead to
- If adding chemo to radiation works, it could lower the chance of cervical cancer returning after surgery, potentially improving long-term survival.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase III trial, but results are not yet known. Adding chemo may increase side effects without improving outcomes, and the benefit may only apply to certain patients.
