Blood transfusions after ICU: a new hope for tired survivors?

NCT ID NCT04591574

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether giving blood transfusions to patients who are anemic after leaving the intensive care unit (ICU) can help them feel less tired and recover better. About 346 adults from UK hospitals will be randomly assigned to either the usual care (transfusions only if very needed) or a more active transfusion plan. The goal is to see if treating anemia more aggressively improves quality of life and physical function over six months.
