New scan aims to spot hidden kidney cancers without surgery
NCT ID NCT06949215
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a special PET/CT scan using a radioactive tracer called 68Ga-NYM096 to see if it can accurately detect clear cell kidney cancer in people with complex kidney cysts who are scheduled for surgery. About 70 participants will receive the tracer and undergo imaging before their operation. The results will be compared to the final tissue diagnosis to measure the scan's accuracy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 68Ga-NYM096 (a radioactive tracer for PET/CT imaging)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to accurately detect clear cell kidney cancer in complex cysts, helping guide surgery decisions.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early phase 2 study with only 70 participants at one hospital. The scan may not be accurate enough to replace standard biopsy or could miss some cancers.
