New MRI scan could replace invasive heart test for lung patients

NCT ID NCT03928002

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at whether a special MRI scan (4D Flow) can measure blood flow in the lungs as accurately as the standard invasive test (cardiac catheterization) in people with pulmonary hypertension linked to congenital heart disease. Researchers enrolled 50 patients aged 7 and older. The goal was to see if the MRI could provide the same key information without the need for a catheter, which is uncomfortable and risky.
