New MRI scan could replace painful liver pressure test

NCT ID NCT05475015

First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a special MRI scan (3D-MRE) can accurately measure pressure in the liver's blood vessels, which is important for managing cirrhosis and advanced liver disease. Currently, doctors must insert a tube into a neck vein to measure this pressure, which is invasive and uncomfortable. The study will enroll 150 adults with chronic liver disease to see if the MRI can replace the needle-based test. If successful, it could make monitoring liver disease safer and easier.
