New 3D MRI could spare liver patients from needle tests

NCT ID NCT05475015

First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a special 3D MRI scan (called 3D-MRE) can accurately measure liver pressure in people with cirrhosis or advanced liver disease. Currently, doctors must insert a thin tube into a neck vein to measure this pressure. If the scan works, it could offer a safer, painless alternative. The study will enroll 150 adults and compare the scan results to the standard invasive measurement.
