New imaging agent could spot prostate cancer spread
NCT ID NCT03334500
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new radioactive tracer called 18F-FTT in 30 men with prostate cancer. The tracer is designed to light up PARP-1 activity on PET/CT scans, which may help doctors see where cancer has spread. Researchers will compare the scan results with tissue samples to see if the tracer works well. The main goal is to check safety and see if this imaging method is feasible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
18F-FluorThanatrace (18F-FTT), a radioactive tracer for PET/CT imaging
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a better way to see prostate cancer spread using a special PET scan, helping guide treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small study (30 people) focused on safety and imaging accuracy, not treatment. The tracer may not reliably detect all tumors, and results may not apply to broader populations.
