Schwannoma
MONDO:0002546A benign, usually encapsulated slow growing tumor composed of Schwann cells. It affects peripheral and cranial nerves. It recurs infrequently and only rare cases associated with malignant transformation have been reported.
Also known as: benign neurilemmoma, benign schwannoma, neurilemmoma, neurinoma, peripheral fibroblastoma, schwannoma, schwannoma (WHO grade I), schwannoma, benign

New hope for rare nerve tumor disorder: Multi-Drug trial launches
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests several experimental drugs in people with NF2-related schwannomatosis, a genetic condition that causes non-cancerous tumors on nerves. The goal is to see if these drugs can shrink tumors and control the disease. About 109 participants will receive one of three dr…

New shorter radiation therapy could tame brain tumors
Disease control Recruiting nowThis study tests a shorter course of high-dose proton radiation for people with non-cancerous brain tumors like meningiomas and schwannomas. The goal is to see if fewer treatments can still control tumor growth while reducing side effects and being more convenient. About 70 adult…

New trial tests if proton beam therapy spares brain function better than standard X-Rays
Disease control Recruiting nowThis phase 3 trial compares proton beam therapy to standard photon radiotherapy in 156 adults with primary brain tumors. The goal is to see if proton therapy, which delivers less radiation to healthy brain tissue, improves functional survival—meaning living longer without tumor r…

New microscope could help brain surgeons see tumors in real time
Diagnosis Recruiting nowThis study tests a device called the CONVIVO system, which acts like a high-powered microscope during brain tumor surgery. It helps surgeons tell the difference between normal and abnormal tissue right away. About 30 adults with various brain tumors will take part. The goal is to…

Hope for schwannomatosis pain: new drug trial launches
Symptom relief Recruiting nowThis study tests two experimental drugs, siltuximab and erenumab, to see if they can safely reduce chronic pain in people with schwannomatosis, a condition that causes painful nerve tumors. About 40 adults with moderate-to-severe pain will receive either a drug or a placebo. The …

Radiation's hidden toll on the brain: new study maps cognitive changes to protect patients
Knowledge-focused Recruiting nowThis study follows 300 adults with primary brain tumors (such as glioma or meningioma) who are receiving partial brain radiation. Researchers use brain scans and memory, attention, and language tests before and after treatment to understand how radiation affects thinking skills. …
