Meningioma
MONDO:0016642A generally slow growing tumor attached to the dura mater. It is composed of neoplastic meningothelial (arachnoidal) cells. It typically occurs in adults, often women and it has a wide range of histopathological appearances. Of the various subtypes, meningothelial, fibrous and transitional meningiomas are the most common. Most meningiomas are WHO grade I tumors, and some are WHO grade II or III tumors. Most subtypes share a common clinical behavior, although some subtypes are more likely to recur and follow a more aggressive clinical course. (Adapted from WHO)
Also known as: meningioma, meningioma (disease), intracranial meningioma, meningeal neoplasm, meningothelial cell tumor, meningothelial cell tumour, primary meningeal tumor, primary meningeal tumour

Electric fields and a blood vessel blocker take aim at recurrent brain tumors
Disease control CompletedResearchers are testing whether combining bevacizumab, a drug that blocks new blood vessel growth, with Optune, a device that delivers electric fields to the brain, can help people with recurrent high-grade meningioma. Participants wear the Optune device for at least 18 hours a d…

Experimental combo targets Hard-to-Treat cancers
Disease control CompletedThis early-phase trial tested a combination of two drugs—177Lu-DOTA-TATE (a radioactive therapy) and olaparib (a PARP inhibitor)—in 18 people with certain cancers like neuroendocrine tumors, thymoma, or mesothelioma that have a specific marker (somatostatin receptor). The goal wa…

Glowing dye could help surgeons spot hidden brain tumor cells
Diagnosis CompletedThis study tests whether a fluorescent dye called tozuleristide, given before surgery, can make brain tumor tissue glow under a special imaging system. Surgeons can then see and remove more of the tumor while sparing healthy brain. The trial enrolls adults with certain types of b…

Tiny study hints at imaging tool to predict meningioma treatment success
Diagnosis CompletedThis completed study looked at 11 patients with meningioma (a type of brain tumor) who received a treatment called 177Lu-DOTATATE. Researchers used special scans to measure how much radiation the tumors absorbed, and checked if that could predict whether patients would survive wi…

Glowing dye could help surgeons spot hidden brain tumor cells
Diagnosis CompletedThis phase 3 trial tested a drug called Gleolan in 108 adults with meningioma (a type of brain tumor). Patients took a single oral dose before surgery. The drug makes tumor tissue glow under special light, helping surgeons see and remove more of the tumor. The study checked if th…

Less contrast, same clarity: new MRI method could reduce gadolinium exposure
Diagnosis CompletedThis study looked at whether using a much lower dose of gadolinium (a contrast dye) in MRI scans can still find meningiomas (a type of brain tumor) as well as the standard full dose. Over 500 adults getting a brain MRI for screening or follow-up took part. The goal is to reduce t…

New Gadolinium-Free MRI dye shows promise for brain scans
Diagnosis CompletedThis study tested a new MRI contrast agent called RVP-001, made with manganese instead of gadolinium, in 18 adults with known brain lesions (like tumors or multiple sclerosis). The goal was to see if it is safe and can detect lesions as well as current gadolinium-based dyes. Each…
