Can a simple writing exercise ease PTSD and cravings?

NCT ID NCT07397507

First seen Feb 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looks at whether Written Exposure Therapy (WET), a short writing treatment for PTSD, can help people who also have substance use disorder (SUD) while they are in residential treatment. About 108 participants will either do WET or neutral writing sessions, plus their usual care. Researchers will measure PTSD symptoms, substance use, and physical responses like heart rate and cravings to see if WET works and how biology might play a role.
