Writing away trauma: new therapy shows promise for sexual assault survivors

NCT ID NCT06571513

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether a simple writing therapy, done over video calls, could help prevent or reduce PTSD in women who recently experienced sexual assault. Thirty women who visited a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) clinic within 7 days of the assault took part. The therapy involved five writing sessions about the traumatic event, and the study measured how well it worked and if it was practical to do remotely.
