Tooth-Saving showdown: new pulp therapy matches root canal success
NCT ID NCT07355140
First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested whether a less invasive treatment called vital pulp therapy works as well as a standard root canal for adults with a painful, inflamed tooth nerve. Forty-three people completed the 12-month follow-up. The vital pulp therapy used a patient's own blood concentrate to help heal the nerve, while the root canal removed the nerve entirely. Both treatments had similar success rates in relieving pain and preventing infection.
