Escaping into nature: could VR goggles transform a painful bladder procedure?
NCT ID NCT06528925
First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether wearing virtual reality goggles that show calming nature scenes with music can reduce pain, anxiety, and changes in heart rate and blood pressure during urodynamics, a procedure that checks how well the bladder works. Half of the participants will wear the goggles during the procedure, while the other half receives standard care. Researchers will measure pain, anxiety, and vital signs before, right after, and 15 minutes after the procedure to see if the VR experience makes a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- virtual reality goggles showing nature landscapes with relaxing music
- What this could lead to
- If effective, virtual reality could become a simple, drug-free way to ease discomfort and stress during urodynamics and similar medical procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, and the benefit may be modest or not apply to everyone. Some people may find the goggles uncomfortable or experience motion sickness.
