New drug combo aims to protect kidneys in heart patients

NCT ID NCT07304817

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether a new drug, vicadrostat, works differently than the older drug spironolactone when both are taken with empagliflozin. About 100 adults with chronic kidney disease and heart disease or heart failure will take one of the two combinations for 26 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in kidney function and look at protein patterns in blood and urine to understand how each drug affects the kidneys.
