Could a simple massager replace pain pills after wrist surgery?

NCT ID NCT05318729

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study will test whether using a small vibration massager can help control pain and reduce the need for opioid painkillers after surgery for a broken wrist. About 100 adults who have had wrist fracture repair will use the device and report their pain levels and medication use. The goal is to find a safer, non-drug way to manage post-surgery pain.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to manage pain after wrist surgery and reduce reliance on opioids.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants. The vibration tool may not provide meaningful pain relief, and results may not apply to other surgeries or patients.
