New hope for veterans who smoke: a drug to help cut back and quit

Summary
This study tests whether the drug varenicline can help 400 veterans who smoke at least 5 cigarettes a day but aren't ready to quit. The goal is to help them cut down, make a quit attempt, and stay smoke-free for good. Participants will take the medication and be followed for up to 12 months to see if they stop smoking.
