Psychedelics rewire Brain's learning? yale study investigates

NCT ID NCT06624137

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This observational study at Yale University is recruiting 200 people who are already taking part in another trial where they may receive a serotonergic psychedelic (like psilocybin or LSD) or a placebo. Researchers want to understand how these substances change the brain's information processing, such as reliance on new versus old information, and electrical activity. Participants will complete computer tasks, brain scans (MEG/EEG/MRI), and interviews to track these changes over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could reveal how psychedelics alter brain processing, potentially guiding better treatments for mental health conditions and predicting who might benefit or experience side effects.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a therapy. Results may be complex and not lead to immediate clinical changes.
