New shot may curb heavy drinking in Reward-Seeking patients

Summary

This study tests whether a monthly injection of naltrexone (a medication that blocks pleasure from alcohol) helps people who drink mainly for the rewarding effects reduce their heavy drinking. About 60 adults with alcohol use disorder will receive either the shot or a placebo, plus counseling. The goal is to see if the medication leads to fewer heavy drinking days over 8 weeks.
