New catheter lock could slash infection risk in young cancer patients

NCT ID NCT05781295

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether a taurolidine lock solution, placed inside the catheter when not in use, can prevent infections better than a standard saline lock. About 148 children with cancer who need a central catheter will take part. The study is double-blind, meaning neither the patients nor the doctors know which lock is being used.
