New catheter lock aims to cut infections in young cancer patients

NCT ID NCT05781295

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether a taurolidine lock solution, placed inside the catheter after each use, can prevent infections better than a standard saline lock. The trial involves 148 children and young adults with cancer who need a central catheter. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either the taurolidine or saline lock, and neither they nor their doctors will know which one they get. The goal is to see if the taurolidine lock reduces the number of catheter-related bloodstream infections.
