Scientists map immune chaos in sepsis to unlock hidden clues
NCT ID NCT03788772
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at how certain immune cells (antigen-presenting cells) behave in people with sepsis, a life-threatening response to infection. Researchers collected extra blood samples from 119 ICU patients and healthy volunteers to analyze these cells at a molecular level. The goal was to better understand why sepsis can weaken the immune system and lead to further infections. No new treatment was tested—this was purely an observation study.
