New DNA scanning method may uncover hidden causes of cleft lip and palate

NCT ID NCT06880094

First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study aims to find hidden genetic changes that cause orofacial clefts (cleft lip and palate) in 26 people whose standard genetic tests came back normal. Researchers will use a new, high-resolution technique called optical genome mapping to look for large DNA rearrangements that other methods miss. The goal is to better understand the genetic roots of these common birth defects.
