New combo therapy may prevent bone loss after stopping osteoporosis drug

NCT ID NCT07281586

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at a new way to stop taking the osteoporosis drug denosumab (Prolia) without losing bone density. When people stop denosumab after using it for years, their bones can weaken quickly. The standard approach of switching to another drug often doesn't fully prevent this. The trial tests a step-down plan: using a half-dose of denosumab along with another bone-strengthening drug (zoledronic acid) to see if it better protects the spine. About 44 postmenopausal women and men aged 50–85 who have taken denosumab for at least 3 years will take part.
