First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested whether injecting donor stem cells into the leg muscles of people undergoing major leg amputation could prevent wound complications and reduce the need for further amputations. 81 adults aged 40-90 with severe artery disease received stem cell injections above and below the amputation site. The main goal was to check safety and see if this approach lowers the risk of death, wound infection, or additional surgery.
