Cholesterol drug trial aims to spare Crohn's patients from repeat surgeries

NCT ID NCT06538649

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether statins, commonly used for cholesterol, can prevent the recurrence of painful bowel narrowings (strictures) in adults with Crohn's disease. Researchers will give 20 participants either a statin or a placebo pill daily for 6-12 months after they have surgery to remove an existing stricture. The goal is to see if the medication can reduce the need for future surgeries by preventing new strictures from forming.
