Dialysis needle training: does practice on mannequins prevent bruising?

NCT ID NCT05302505

First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding simulation-based training (practicing on mannequins) to standard classroom teaching helps nurses cause fewer complications when inserting needles into dialysis patients' arm connections (arteriovenous fistulas). About 9600 adult dialysis patients took part. Researchers tracked problems like failed needle insertions and bruising to see if the extra training made a difference.
