Could half the seizure prevention time be enough for new moms with preeclampsia?

NCT ID NCT00344058

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving magnesium sulfate for 12 hours instead of the usual 24 hours after childbirth is just as effective at preventing seizures in women with mild preeclampsia. Researchers enrolled 200 women and measured blood pressure, symptoms, and how long treatment lasted. The goal was to see if shorter treatment could safely reduce exposure to the medication.
