Higher antidepressant dose linked to more hospital trips for seniors with kidney issues

NCT ID NCT07387120

Summary

This study looked at whether starting older adults with reduced kidney function on a higher dose (50mg) of the antidepressant sertraline is riskier than starting on a lower dose (25mg). Researchers analyzed health records of nearly 7,000 people aged 66+ in Canada to see if the higher dose led to more hospital visits, emergency room trips, or deaths within 30 days. The goal is to provide clearer guidance for safer medication prescribing in this vulnerable group.
