First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether a selenium gel can help treat oral lichen planus, a chronic inflammatory condition that causes painful mouth sores. Fifty adults with the condition used either selenium gel, a standard steroid cream, or an immunosuppressant cream. Researchers measured pain, disease severity, and levels of an antioxidant enzyme in saliva to see if selenium works as well as the usual treatments.
