Blood test may predict who benefits most from weight loss surgery

NCT ID NCT07241741

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring a specific protein (PTX3) in the blood before surgery could help predict how well patients would respond to weight loss surgery. Researchers followed 23 patients undergoing gastric bypass surgery, checking their weight, insulin resistance, and inflammation markers at 3 and 6 months after the procedure. The goal was to see if the pre-surgery PTX3 level could forecast who would experience the best improvements in metabolism and inflammation reduction.
