Magic mushroom therapy targets stomach pain in early trial

NCT ID NCT06760533

First seen Mar 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This early study tests whether psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with talk therapy can help people with severe irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Ten adults with hard-to-treat IBS will receive either a high dose of psilocybin or a placebo (niacin) during a guided session, plus several therapy meetings before and after. The goal is to see if this approach is feasible and reduces abdominal pain.
