Could a simple injection ease stubborn back pain?

NCT ID NCT03712527

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tested whether a single injection of a patient's own concentrated platelets (PRP) into a damaged spinal disc could reduce pain and improve daily function in people with chronic low back pain. 126 adults with a specific type of disc inflammation (Modic 1) were randomly assigned to receive either PRP or a placebo (salt water). The main goal was to see if more people in the PRP group achieved at least a 30% improvement in disability after 3 months.
