New study aims to spare patients unnecessary radiation to the neck

Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether using a sentinel lymph node biopsy can help doctors decide which side of the neck needs radiation, instead of treating both sides in all patients. About 242 adults with certain head and neck cancers will be randomly assigned to standard bilateral neck radiation or a personalized approach based on biopsy results. The goal is to reduce long-term dry mouth and other side effects without increasing the risk of cancer coming back in the neck.
