Nerve block before bypass may stop dangerous heart flutter

NCT ID NCT07570940

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests if a numbing injection near certain neck nerves, given before heart bypass surgery, can prevent a common complication called atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). About 450 adults having bypass surgery will receive either the nerve block or a placebo. Their heart rhythms will be monitored for a week after surgery to see if the block reduces the chance of developing this heart rhythm problem.
