Simple blood test may prevent thyroid surgery side effect

NCT ID NCT07491601

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether measuring parathyroid hormone (PTH) soon after thyroid removal can prevent symptomatic hypoparathyroidism, a condition causing low calcium and uncomfortable symptoms. About 336 adults having thyroid surgery will be monitored. If early PTH testing works, it could lead to faster treatment, shorter hospital stays, and better quality of life.
