Can we predict dementia after a stroke? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT01330160
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study followed 229 stroke survivors over time to understand what factors might lead to dementia or cognitive problems after a stroke. Researchers looked at medical history, brain scans, and medications. The goal was to identify clues that could help predict and possibly prevent post-stroke dementia.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help doctors predict which stroke survivors are at higher risk for dementia, leading to earlier monitoring or preventive strategies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It cannot prove cause and effect, and the findings may not apply to all stroke patients.
