Shockingly simple: electric stretch boosts young Footballers' flexibility
NCT ID NCT07075497
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding a mild electrical stimulation to a specific stretching technique (PNF) could improve hamstring flexibility and jumping ability in young football players aged 10 to 18. Forty-seven active players were split into two groups: one received real electrical stimulation during stretching, the other a placebo. The goal was to see if the combo could help prevent common hamstring injuries. Results may show a simple way to enhance flexibility in young athletes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) combined with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple way to improve hamstring flexibility and reduce injury risk in young athletes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed trial with only 47 participants, so results may not apply to all athletes. The intervention is short-term and may not prevent injuries long-term.
