Summary

This study looked at whether donating plasma more often affects protein levels, inflammation, and mental health in male blood donors. 120 men were split into three groups: one donated plasma three times every two weeks, another every two weeks, and a third donated whole blood every three months. Researchers measured blood proteins and psychological distress before, during, and after the 16-week donation period to see if frequent donation is safe.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help set safer guidelines for how often people can donate plasma without harming their health.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study in healthy male donors only, so results may not apply to women or people with health conditions. It does not test a new treatment.
