Pilates calorie count for seniors revealed in new study
NCT ID NCT07621523
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will measure how much energy older adults use during mat and equipment-based Pilates sessions. Twenty men and women aged 60+ with Pilates experience will complete both types of Pilates and treadmill walking. Researchers will track calories burned, heart rate, and perceived effort to see how Pilates compares to moderate-intensity walking.

- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help exercise professionals prescribe Pilates more precisely for weight management and heart health in older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 20 participants. Results may not apply to all older adults, and the study does not test long-term health outcomes.
