New study aims to cut unnecessary CT scans for lung clots

NCT ID NCT07313501

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at two checklists (PERC and YEARS) that doctors can use to decide if a patient with a possible lung clot needs a CT scan. Researchers will review records of 500 adults who came to the emergency room with symptoms and had both a blood test and a chest scan. The goal is to see how many scans could have been avoided if the checklists had been used, which could save time and reduce radiation exposure.
